Now that we have text instead of graphics in the 'powered by Drupal' block,

David_Rothstein commentedInteresting historical fact, mentioned on IRC the other day:
These icons were apparently part of Drupal core before the Powered by Drupal block ever existed (i.e., even when they were not being used by core at all): #183332: Add an optional 'Powered by Drupal' block
Whether they should be removed or not I don't know, but that does mean that someone at some point put them in even when they were not in use :) Perhaps it's still useful to continue distributing them?

kika commentedHere's the visual reminder how these buttons look.
I'd remove all of them, there is no point to keep on distributing legacy branding for another 2 years.
For historical record it would be nice to archive those somewhere. AFAIK there is not more /marketing section
in CVS contrib. Perhaps it's time for "Historical Museum of Drupal" group?
nevets commentedWhat if people still want to use them? I see no reason to remove them.
kika commentedIt's still ok to use badges if you want to, but:
1. We work towards removing Druplicon from core and replacing it with wordmark
2. As we lost "powered by Drupal" block, badges in /misc are really really hard to find
3. Drupal.org is a way better place for Drupal/Druplicon promotion badges/swag etc -- there these can be extended and updated faster. There is even a special place for Druplicon there http://drupal.markboultondesign.com/iteration11/druplicon.html
So, let's treat these in the same way as we deal with other legacy gfx: icons, progressbar etc: take them to the Drupal graphics design pasture.

mcrittenden commentedAgreed with #4 on moving badges and stuff like that to Drupal.org if core's not specifically using them. (Also, subscribe)
kika commentedLast but not least, core will be 36kb lighter.
Tor Arne Thune commentedI vote for removing them. Just makes it more difficult to handle and browse through the misc folder. Put them here or something for historical purposes.

yoroy commentedNo idea how to patch this, but we should still do this. These were already old in 2009…

Niklas Fiekas commentedGit binary diffs look intresting ... :)
devin carlson commentedThe patch in #11 looks good, applied cleanly and removed the 9 image files.
