Chatter profiles list more info & open in separate tab, window, etc.

The most successful and interesting chat services have info next to each chatters name.

The info could provide age, gender, location, smoker / not, etc. from the user's profile information.

This could manifest as an auto updating separate block, perhaps using something like views slideshow or similar; I'm imagining to the left or right of the chat room.

I have been playing around with Views but don't know how to pull out just the active chatters.

Additionally, it would be nice to have the profile link open a separate window / tab rather than taking the user away from the chat room.

Your thoughts and suggestions / assistance are appreciated.
