The module insists it is not present. I have tried de-activating and re-activating the module too.
Attached are 2 screen shots, one shows that I do indeed have the file there, the other is the status report saying it's not.

I don't know where the fault was, but somehow the modules path was confused.
it was sites/all/sitename/sites/all/modules/views_galleriffic/views_galleriffic.module
rather than
sites/all/modules/views_galleriffic/views_galleriffic.module
editing DB fixed.
