There will be a views filter in the next commit, that implements this idea. Thanks for the tip.

Also t would be great to provide a import facility to mass import locations.

Maybe hook into node_import.

Aside from Views exposed filters, which is fully and beautifully available on the latest version, you can also use Finder module (http://drupal.org/project/finder) with Views support...
