I was wondering if there's any interest in re-architecting this install profile to use popular off-the-shelf modules from drupal.org like CCK and Views, rather than the more custom modules? I'm not completely familiar with the imc_alba family of modules but my assumption is that they are probably a lot less versatile/extensible?

Of course the answer might well be "sounds great go for it" and I'm not sure I have time. but, wondering if anyone else has been thinking about or working on this :)

There is so much talent, so many Drupal Indymedia sites, but they all seem to do it in their own way:

Some say IMC Alba is nice to start with and has a lot completeness for a starter, but it uses unfavorable methods like incompatible modules.

To get the same functionality in a more Drupal generalized way, is an enormous amount of work for a starter.

I hope that all Drupal Indymedia developers worldwide can join efforts to get new Indymedia IMC software, install profiles and issue feature requests and post patches for EXISTING MODULES to do the same like IMC Alba but thne with standard modules.

We should get all those people -especially Scotland/Tomm and LinksUnten- get working together for this goal.

The standard place to do this is that all Drupal IMC developers wordwide should be active on this site, mailing-list and IRC:

I just got my newswire amateuristic without IMC Alba:

But then the problem is how to get it like IMC Alba? For articles with the same date, its useless screen filling to repeat the same date several times.

Then the nice IMC alba moderation, how to get that working in another way? For sure some of these have to be integrated and changed:

i've been looking at Features for nifty solution to copying base setups between sites - it might be worth your checking it out.
