I installed the module and the dependencies but no popup is showing. I'm using drupal 6.12 and tryed pmgrowl alpha 2 and cvs. Nothing works. I'm new to drupal. I would send you some debugging info but i don't know how to get it :P Is it possible that the host disabled something so the popups won't show?
I really would _love_ to use this.
Thanks

Hello there,
Same for me: I seemed to have installed the module properly ( no errors mentioned)... but the pop ups don;t show up.
I have later on noticed an error in my logs:

file_get_contents(sites/all/modules/pmgrowl/jgrowl/jquery.jgrowl_minimized.js) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/expat9c/public_html/deltabridges/includes/common.inc on line 2359.

Any help would be really appreciated as I would really like to use this exciting module :)

Hi to the both of you. Sorry there to hear you're having problems... as Delta Bridges' error message says, you need to have the sites/all/modules/pmgrowl/jgrowl/jquery.jgrowl_minimized.js at exactly that location. That file is available from the jgrowl plugin page that's linked from the home page. When you download and look in that folder, make sure that you do in fact have the "jquery.jgrowl_minimized.js" file in there as I'm fairly certain you can get a version that does not have the "minimized" file.

Let me know how it goes.

Delta Bridges’s picture

Yes, you were right: I had put the file i question in the wrong place.... sorry for the bother!
Now the module is working really well, and I will post here if I notice anything wrong.
Thanks for a great new functionality on Drupal sites!!

Dave.Ingram’s picture

Great! and ddd_? if you're still having issues please let me know. Also, please make sure you're using the latest alpha 2 version of the module.

ddd_’s picture

Its in xxx.de/cms/sites/all/modules/pmgrowl/jgrowl and its called jquery.jgrowl_minimized.js :P /cms is where drupal lives. I set all permissions from privatemsg and privatemsg_filter to marked. It surely is some stupidity that i did wrong because am very new to drupal!
Cron is disabled for my installation. Is this a problem? When i do it manually it says: "warning: set_time_limit() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/www/cwcity/hosting/t/h/theologie/htdocs/cms/includes/common.inc on line 2619.". And my site does not have external http access. (drupal cannot update itself). Thats all the information i can get as i don't know how to debug this thing :P
edit: i deleted the pmgrowl folder and installed it from scratch: got pmgrowl. downloaded jGrowl 1.2. extraced both. renamed jGrowl-1.2.0 to jgrowl and copied it into pmgrowl. uploaded it.
Oh and maybe I'm mistaken but: I send a message from a user to another user. Then this nice popup should appear?! (within the given time)

ddd_’s picture

OK i switched provider today and now it works! (and its great btw!!!)

Daniel A. Beilinson’s picture

Hi! Same problem: not working for me.
jquery.jgrowl_minimized.js and all files from jGrowl-1.2.0.tgz is here: /var/www/apache2/html/sites/all/modules/community/pmgrowl/jgrowl and html examples from examples directory is working. What's wrong? Maybe jQuery version? I have version from drupal core.

ddd_’s picture

Well that provider was bad too :P I'm trying a different one now. On that one the pmgrowl module doesn't work too. What it has in common with the first one: Drupal doesn't have access to external sites. It complains that it can't update etc...
Is that feature needed for pmgrowl?
EDIT tryed another provider. didn't work with the external access working :P

ddd_’s picture

OK this http://drupal.org/project/purr_messages is working!
It outputs system messages growl style.

ddd_’s picture

I tryied installing the http://drupal.org/project/jquery_update but it doesn't help.

ddd_’s picture

Is there no way for me to debug this? I'm new to debugging online but maybe you could give me some advice?! I really would like this to work!

naheemsays’s picture

why would you install jquery update? It is not needed for this module.

What modules do you have installed?

My setup - pmgrowl module ONLY, and then uploaded the jgrowl jquery files into a subfolder as in the instructions. No other modules such as jgrowl.module.

Because I'm a little desperate...

The doku says to install privatemsg also.

naheemsays’s picture

yes, I meant apart from provatemsg - that is an essential. My bad.

Do you have javascript aggregation enabled in the performance settings? if so, turn it off and then check to see if the javascript file is being correctly loaded or not in the page html source.

ddd_’s picture

No its not active. I don't know how to check that or which file you mean. pmgrowl.js? Where can i check that?

naheemsays’s picture

If you have aggregation turned off, when you visit a page, right click and view source. in the head area it will list all stylesheets and scripts that are being loaded. Just make sure that the jgrowl one is being loaded too/is pointing to the correct location.

Dave.Ingram’s picture

ddd_: Please also install Firebug in Firefox and see if you're getting any javascript errors. This could could be helpful for debugging. The other thing you should try is disabling all other modules and see if that fixes the problem. There may be a conflict, specifically with purr_messages, jquery_update, or anything else that is inserting javascript on the page.

girardandrew’s picture

it doesn't work with Firefox.

thamizhchelvan’s picture

Hi
I got this error:

"/messages/pmgrowl_json" not found, while pmgrowl sending ajax request to this url. Any idea?

thamizhchelvan’s picture

I got worked after enabling the mod_rewrite in my apache conf setting. I think, no matter whether we have enabled clean url in drupal or not, but PMgrowl should work if mod_rewrite is enabled.

Can anyone confirm it, am I correct?

volocuga’s picture

for all: Look at the screen very carefully.I spent about a hour trying understand why the popup doesnt work.In fact it loaded correctly but without styles and right at the page bottom. I using framework theme.
