I need advice or suggestions from people that are in the know

Type of Feeds: A mixture; Bloggers, News, other related sites

I'm running a fair number of inbound Feeds and have several questions:

1) How long should I keep a Feed Item alive?

2) Will I lose the link to original story from source after a period of time?

3) Should I archive after a period of time? ….. Or

4) Should I just let them be automatically deleted using the expire feature?

5) If I do delete them, how does Goggle react to missing pages? Will they spank my site, for “Page not found”?

This is really about your site, these are site architecturing questions, and nothing about FeedAPI.
