The ability to upload a .ZIP file seems to be broken. I get a loading status (busy cursor) for about 2 minutes before the upload page refreshes itself and with no new changes.

#1918456: multi-image upload

Large zip folders may cause problems if they are too big for the server to handle. I would suggest uploading the zip folder via FTP and using the admin feature to unzip the folder from the server. From /photos/import you can set the path to the zip file and some other options along with which album you would like the files to be saved.
