no computations

Even with something as simple as this:

$node_field[0]['value'] = "test";

I got nothing in my computed field (which sort of explains why more complicated calculations weren't working either...

Is there a minimum version of CCK this should work with in Drupal 5?

What other reasons might this simply not work?

(I've used this module successfully on other sites.)
