i am using views to create a classifieds page on a site but it seems for every entry that uses a term from the vocabulary the view creates a duplicate entry
i just want a page that lists the terms in the vocabulary when you click on the menu link, then when you click on the term it takes you to a page that lists all of the nodes for the associated content type

Your view is a node type view (the default), if what you want is to list the terms in a vocabulary you probably want to set "View Type" to "Term" when creating the view.
