I have two questions really.

1) What are the chances that this module will be ported to Drupal 6?

2) Is there an actual attempt to get this module included in the core (it seems like it should be core functionality)?

1) If it's waiting on me, slim to none. I'm no longer actively supporting any Drupal sites, so I can't justify spending time on developing it these days. Anyone else is, of course, free to pick it up. That's the beauty of open source, right? :-)

2) I filed a bug report against Drupal 5 core a long time ago: http://drupal.org/node/129225. It's still unassigned and marked as "needs work".
