If you create an alias called 'sites' you'll end up with a 403 page.
To reproduce:
- Enable path module
- create a node and set the path alias to 'sites'
- submit and you' ll get a 403 page

Jody LynnThis is true for all the paths that correspond to directories (misc, modules, themes, etc). Perhaps it could be avoided on the .htaccess level?
