Strangely I have not seen this causing errors, but SyncInterface does not foresee for a getPlugin() method. That is exclusive to OperationTypeInterface. Note that operation types need to be load with the loadWithPluginInstantiated provided by the custom storage, otherwise the getPlugin() method returns NULL.
