Free PDF accessibility checker and one-click AI remediation for Drupal. EqualWeb PDF Accessibility scans every PDF on your site against the PDF/UA standard, gives each file an accessibility score with a detailed, rule-by-rule report, and can automatically remediate inaccessible PDFs — replacing a file in place (with a restorable backup) or saving a new accessible copy alongside it.

The accessibility check is completely free and needs no account, no API key, and no signup. Install the module and scan — you get scores and full reports for the PDFs already on your site at no cost. Only the optional AI remediation uses EqualWeb credits.

Accessibility standards

Checks and remediation are aligned with the major PDF and web accessibility standards:

  • PDF/UA — ISO 14289
  • WCAG 2.2 — Level AA
  • Section 508
  • ADA
  • EN 301 549

Features

  • Automatic discovery — finds the PDFs already on your site (managed files); nothing to upload.
  • Free PDF/UA check — an accessibility score plus a detailed, rule-by-rule report for each file. No account, no cost.
  • One-click AI remediation — tag → check → OCR → done. Fixes reading order, heading levels, tables, lists, links and references, and writes real alternate text for images.
  • Scanned documents — OCR turns a scan of a printed page into searchable, accessible, tagged text.
  • Replace or keep — replace the original in place (a restorable backup is kept), or save a new accessible copy.
  • Before/after scores, downloadable reports, and site-wide compliance analytics.
  • Your document is preserved — layout and visual design stay exactly the same; accessibility is applied to the source file.

Requirements

  • Drupal 10 or 11.
  • Free checks: nothing to configure — no account or API key needed. (Keyless checks are rate-limited; add a free EqualWeb API key to remove the limit.)
  • AI remediation: a free EqualWeb account with credits.

External service & privacy

When you check or remediate a PDF, the file and its metadata are sent to the EqualWeb service for processing — nothing is transmitted until you run a check or remediation. Details on the Drupal integration page. By using the service you agree to EqualWeb’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
