Suggestion: as a replacement/alternative to the functionality exposed through "Add an extra page link to each expanding menu item", instead create a link that appears (to the right?) upon a mouseover of a parent menu item. Clicking that floating link will bring up what would have been displayed when I clicked on the parent menu item when DHTML Menus are not installed.
