After some upgrade troubles, I realized that the forum content type was not carried over into drupal 6. I created a new content type, and associated it with the forum taxon. I can create the new kind of topics just fine, and they work well, but the link to "Post new forum topic" still tries to create a type called forum, when mine isn't called that.
