Hello and welcome to this asynchronous, biweekly Slack meeting for the Contribution Events Initiative!

This meeting:
➤ Is for Drupal community members interested in how to better organize, promote, and improve contribution events. We discuss upcoming events, lessons learned from past events, ideas for increasing event participation, how to improve documentation, and more.
➤ Happens every two weeks in alternating timezones: 5pm UTC Mondays and 5am UTC Tuesdays.
➤ Is done over chat.
➤ Is actively facilitated for 1 hour, but is open asynchronously for 24 hours from the meeting start time.
➤ Happens in threads, which you can follow to be notified of new replies even if you don’t comment in the thread. You may also join the meeting later and participate asynchronously!
➤ Transcript will be exported and posted to a project issue for this meeting. For anonymous comments, start with a :bust_in_silhouette: emoji. To take a comment or thread off the record, start with a :no_entry_sign: emoji.

:zero: Who is here today? Comment in the thread to introduce yourself and let us know [insert social question, e.g. if you have any interesting plans for the weekend, what is a recent book/movie/series you enjoyed, what is a new song you like, have any fun vacation plans].
:one: Do you have suggested topics you are looking to discuss? Post in this thread and we’ll open separate threads for them as appropriate. Please use the additional threads for discussion.
:two: Space to call out any recent contribution wins and special Drupal thanks for people in contribution land.
:three: Are there any contribution events coming up that you know about? Regular events?
:four: Did you participate in a contribution event recently? Feedback?
:five: Are you looking for a contribution event to help as an organizer, mentor, or participant? Or are you an event organizer that doesn't have contribution activities yet and would like help?
:six: Do you have any resources or documentation suggestions? Do you have suggestions for where to look for existing documentation (even outside of Drupal)?

0️⃣ Who is here today? Comment in the thread to introduce yourself and..Icebreaker question: Are you going to a community event soon? Which one and what are you looking forward to? If not, are you going to a different type of event you are looking forward to?

Kristen Pol (she/her) Kristen, California...I haven't attended an in-person event since 2019 but am hoping to attend DrupalCon Pittsburgh in June which may seem like a long ways away but just blink and it'll be here. Looking forward to being with people in person after way too long (edited)
Tinto Thijs, Amsterdam :flag-nl:Looking forward to Drupal Dev Days in Vienna in July of this year. I’m super bummed that I didn’t get to participate in the last Contribution Weekend dus to travel.
VinmayiSwamy Vinmayi, India :flag-in:I haven't attended any in-person event yet. Right now I'm able to attend online/remote events only.
hestenet (he/him) Tim from the DA - hoping to go to my local PDX meetup soon, and then have a DA in-person retreat, then Pittsburgh (edited)
alison Hi!  Alison from New York, USA.  Idk yet!  :cat_smile-grin:

1️⃣ Do you have suggested topics you are looking to discuss? Post in this thread and we’ll open separate threads for them as appropriate. Please use the additional threads for discussion.

Kristen Pol (she/her) Looking for D10 readiness abandoned project short term maintainers
Kristen Pol (she/her) Switching to 1 meeting per month... need feedback on time
Tinto I was just going to suggest to turn this meeting into a monthly meeting, but you beat me to it
hestenet (he/him) A little premature, but I mentioned in another channel that I'm thinking about trying to create a version of the '1st time contributor workshop' to run virtually 1/month - but trying to figure out how to do so economically (funding?, using a recording?, other options) - esp. with a focus of onboarding new contributors to good contribution practices.

2️⃣ Are there any contribution events coming up that you know about? Regular events?

Kristen Pol (she/her) In addition to adding events here, encourage organizers to add these to the Community Events list
Tinto There’s another edition of Drupaljam coming up - the largest Drupal event in the Netherlands. I wonder if there will be any contribution rooms there..
MegaChriz @bertboerland ^
bertboerland hi, one of the co-organizers here (and in fact starter :)) traditionally we dont do do contribution rooms. it is a packed. also, the big room can hold up to 500 people (we have done that :)) but there arent many rooms available, just 4 up and one below and a room for sponsors. but i will look into an option for a contribution room. (edited)
smustgrave Not an event in person. But always looking for volunteers for #needs-review-queue-initiative

3️⃣ Did you participate in a contribution event recently? Feedback?

Kristen Pol (she/her) In addition to adding feedback here, use this issue or create a child issue to add any contribution event feedback:#3282885: META: 2022 Drupal contribution events feedback
gambry At EPAM Systems we ran our quarterly “Global Contribution Week” event (do not confuse with “weekend” event we ran with the drupal community  ) Worked on ~ 60 issuesRTBC: 9Fixed: 6Needs review: 23Needs work (Active): 18Needs discussion: 2Postponed: 2
Kristen Pol (she/her) Nice! That’s a lot :+1:

4️⃣ Are you looking for a contribution event to help as an organizer, mentor, or participant?

Kristen Pol (she/her) In addition to adding your interest here, use this issue to signify your willingness to help at contribution events: https://www.drupal.org/community-initiatives/contribution-events-initiative/contribution-events-organizers-and-mentors
Tinto I’m always open to share ideas or experiences if anyone needs a hand.
alison I wish there were a virtual/hybrid contribution event along with in-person contribution events at DrupalCon.I don't have any bandwidth to help make it happen, this DEFINITELY isn't a criticism, it's just wistfulness!
Kristen Pol (she/her) It would be great to have… but, yeah, someone would need to volunteer to lead such an effort. I did ask awhile ago and the DA wasn’t planning on coordinating that. Unfortunately I probably don’t have the bandwidth
alison Might be thread-scope-creep BUT, I'm thinking of proposing a contribution half-day or something at my office.  I haven't done anything toward this, other than having the idea (and planning to demo DrupalPod at our next team meeting) (and, I have contribution mentor experience).I suppose my next stop will be the contribution events documentation/guide! (edited)
Kristen Pol (she/her) Nice :+1:  hope you are able to make it happen 🙂
gusaus Learned from lurking in #mentoring there's going to be some sort DrupalCon presence on drupalcontribution.org
Kristen Pol (she/her) @gusaus It's been a common thing to use Open Social for DrupalCon contributions in the past... at least the North American ones
gusaus And there's been some discussion around potentially putting together some contribution events revolving around the Funding module and some related use cases (including drupalcontibution.org)
gusaus ...and some potential related contribution activity during this upcoming camp
gusaus @Kristen Pol (she/her) Yes - but I wasn't sure they were aware a different group is also working on the site
Kristen Pol (she/her) At, gotcha

5️⃣ Do you have any resources or documentation suggestions? Do you have suggestions for where to look for existing documentation (even outside of Drupal)?

Kristen Pol (she/her) In addition to adding your resources here, use this issue to note any resources and documentation that might be helpful for contribution events or places we could look (even outside of Drupal): #3280005: META: Gather documentation and resources for contribution event organization

6️⃣ Looking for volunteers to be D10 readiness abandoned project short term maintainers to get D10 compatible releases

Kristen Pol (she/her) See thread in #d10readiness https://drupal.slack.com/archives/C014CT1CN1M/p1676317370894339
Tinto Looks super interesting. I’m going to read up on this. Thanks!

7️⃣ We are switching to 1 meeting per month and would like feedback on timing

Kristen Pol (she/her) Please include time zone when suggesting times
Tinto If it remains a 24h asynchronous event, the start time is not that important is it?
Tinto My only concern is that when someone organizes an event, they need to keep a close eye on when this meeting is, in order to not miss it. I usually plan contribution meetups a few weeks in advance tops, so chances are there will not be a meeting before my event. But I guess one can always just post in this channel in a separate thread.
Kristen Pol (she/her) True… we will likely miss things if it’s monthly… though maybe in the middle of these it can just be a “hey, any events coming up?” message

8️⃣ Quiet night 🙂 The meeting is open for next 23 hours, let’s continue the conversation in the threads above. We also welcome feedback on the meeting structure and agenda via the Slack channel or issue queue!

9️⃣ Looking for feedback on how to economically run a version of the '1st time contributor workshop' to run virtually 1/month... suggestions?

Kristen Pol (she/her) via @hestenet (he/him)
Kristen Pol (she/her) https://drupal.slack.com/archives/C03FH8GTB1A/p1676393536840169?thread_ts=1676354506.669249&cid=C03FH8GTB1A
gusaus @hestenet (he/him) Would that be a DA thing? Does that workshop already exist? If yes, how has it been delivered in the past?
hestenet (he/him) The idea would be to model after the one that happens at each DrupalCon, but virtualized, and with a bit more attention to organization contribution culutre.
hestenet (he/him) Doesn't exist in exactly this form yet.
gusaus Considering there's already on DrupalCon related group set up (and of course it's been used in the past), it could make good sense to use https://www.drupalcontribution.org/
gusaus Especially since we can easily connect to https://opencollective.com/drupal-contribution for funding
gusaus Also could be a catalyst for finalizing a process for funding Contribution areas already set up https://opencollective.com/drupal-contribution/projects (edited)
gusaus So if there was a need for related learning materials, contributor funds could flow in/out of https://opencollective.com/drupal-contribution/projects/knowledge-sharing
