Problem/Motivation

  • In Drupal 9.3.X and earlier, the quick-start command shows an error if the site owner attempts to install on a PHP version that is too old.
  • In #2917655: [9.4.x only] Drop official PHP 7.3 support in Drupal 9.4, we are proposing a change to see behavior of \Drupal::MINIMUM_SUPPORTED_PHP to display a warning rather than an error on installation. With the patch in that issue, quick-start no longer displays any message at all on an old PHP version.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Use a version of PHP 7.3 locally.
  2. Use a version of HEAD without #2917655: [9.4.x only] Drop official PHP 7.3 support in Drupal 9.4.
  3. Run php core/scripts/drupal quick-start standard from within the core directory.
  4. See the following message:
      PHP: 7.3.33

Your PHP installation is too old. Drupal requires at least PHP <em class="placeholder">7.4.0</em>. It is recommended to upgrade to PHP version <em class="placeholder">8.0</em> or higher for the best ongoing support. See <a href="http://php.net/supported-versions.php">PHP's version support documentation</a> and the <a href="https://www.drupal.org/docs/9/how-drupal-9-is-made-and-what-is-included/environment-requirements-of-drupal-9#s-php-version-requirement">Environment requirements of Drupal 9</a> page for more information.

  5. Switch to a version of HEAD with #2917655: [9.4.x only] Drop official PHP 7.3 support in Drupal 9.4.
  6. Rerun php core/scripts/drupal quick-start standard from within the core directory. No warning is displayed.

Proposed resolution

Show the warning (and possibly other installation warnings) when the quick-start command is run.
