Problem/Motivation

It seems like the link accesible for Drupal Ladder for students who want to learn the basics about Drupal is not working properly. (see attached photo for more details)

Proposed resolution

Let's take a look at the application template and update it for 2021...

Below are the things we should change:

  1. Remove references to IRC and replace with Slack (and Slack can be accessed via Drupal.org/slack)
  2. Remove references to Drupal Ladder for 2021 - it is being rebuilt and we should not make it a requirement to complete something being rebuilt! (though maybe there *is* a possible project to help the rebuild?
  3. Update the timeline dates to match 2021 dates
  4. Update Terms and Conditions (in a separate issue)

Ah yes - there are a few things we can update here that seem to have not been updated for years!!

Adding items to the Issue Summary and reworking the issue a little to look at how the application template needs work, probably more so than the ladder, to be honest.

@rachel_norfolk, I totally agree with changing IRC to Slack (1) and also the timeline dates (3). When it comes to (2), I am not really aware of what project that should help the rebuild is about.

Would you like me to start a new issue regarding the outdated Terms and Conditions?

changes made to a whole bunch of docs at https://www.drupal.org/community/contributor-guide/reference-information... and we will place a redirect on https://groups.drupal.org/node/411293 to the new version at https://www.drupal.org/community/contributor-guide/reference-information...

  1. IRC changed to Slack
  2. Removed Drupal Ladder this year.
  3. Removed the timeline from the proposal template - we have asked for a plan - I think the kind of students we want can work out what the dates of each week of the Summer are ;-)
  4. Removed the Terms and Conditions completely. The Terms are as defined by the GSoC program that students and mentors sign up to on the Google website and it will be up to the mentor/student pairs to agree any specific ways of working between them to meet those terms

Leaving at Needs Work until we have implemented that redirect.
