Update problem with variationcache

Problem/Motivation

I am trying to update the Group module from 8.x-1.0-rc5 to 8.x-1.2.

The variationcache module is correctly downloaded with Composer.

The group_update_8020 is successfull.

But the variationcache module is not enabled.

Adding it manually in my core.extension.yml fixes the problem for me because of the deploy process I have but maybe other people can have the problem.

Also I can't tell about the entity module has it is already enabled on my project.

Just wanted to report the problem.
