Followup for #3043171: Add ability to manage the display of the "Authored on" field aka "created"
I wanted to open this issue to discuss the possibilities of having a configurable "Authored on" aka created fields for nodes that we can drag and display.
The proposal is to have the field available to configure but hidden. The patch can be as simple as changing the "_configurable" key to TRUE.
I understand the goal of this module of being conservative and eventually being into core but I also feel that Drupal core can accept the ability to configure that field.
The created field is still mentioned in #2353867: [META] Expose Title and other base fields in Manage Display
So maybe is worth clarifying there that the intention is to join it with the "Authored by" field in a common formatter.
What are the drawbacks? Does it break the formatter? Do you think that addition would make it more complicated to get the change into core?
I don't want to be insisting on this since now I have manage_display_extras that will work for the foreseeable future, just to clarify a bit more all the features of the manage_display module and how it will look like when is merged into to core.

adamps commented@rodrigoaguilera Thanks for raising this. I believe you are right - we can allow the created field to be configurable and hidden.
Originally the created field had to be non-configurable and visible for the submitted formatter to work. However I simplified the formatter as part of #3104087: Simplify submitted formatter by using created field directly and changed the created field to be non-configurable and hidden. I didn't realise it, but I could have gone a step further to make it configurable and hidden.
This is a strong positive change IMO and is correct for what would eventually go into core. It gives flexibility for different options:
Here's a patch - not tested yet.

rodrigoaguileraPerfect!
I played around with the code enough to tell that the patch is correct and I even applied it to a simplytest.me site
