I apologize if this is already on the features list, or if I'm totally off the mark on this request. But it would be nice if forums is integrated into views, allowing views to set forum filters, columns, and other nifty views tricks.

Doubtful...unless views moves to "core".

The modules packaged with Drupal do not rely on contributed modules as a rule.
