I was trying to create a link in the left sidebar that contains the variable $uid. I Installed Token and Custom Links modules.

I set the Custom Links region to "left sidebar" in admin/build/block and set the custom link display to "In a sidebar block". The custom link wouldn't display on the left sidebar. It also stubbornly displayed as a teaser on all node types even though I set it not to. Also, the page specific visibility settings has no effect whatsoever.

The token substitution was correct though.
