Problem/Motivation

Original report from #3052464-46: Cannot update to 8.7.0 because of taxonomy_post_update_make_taxonomy_term_revisionable

We have 300k of terms. We got 14400 session timeout for drush command and mysql timeout for this operation.
Each iteration of converting spend more and more time.
It starts from 1000 terms per one second, and after 2000 iterations it spends 3 seconds for 1 term ((

And the main problem: we can't continue to work after break (
Each time it creates new temp tables (

FTR, it happens with drush 9, that uses symony/process, and sets a default timeout of 14400 for subprocess. See https://github.com/drush-ops/drush/blob/d6ca80437f74a7428f002e3f956e4797.... Despite the comment there, it seems there's no way to override the timeout.

I have a similar problem ie lots of taxonomy terms to update leading to a timeout and the site in off-line mode.

I was able to skip the update by commenting line 223 of web/core/modules/taxonomy/taxonomy.post_update.php but that lead to problems with viewing the taxonomy items (probably because it was looking for non-existant revisionable fields)

Perhaps there's a sql script that can be run directly on the database to add new fields in bulk but I dont know where to get started with that
