On a fresh Drupal installation with this module I get the following error when I add a new content of type Basic page:

Hi! I had the same issue, but I think there's something wrong in the patch:
$view_mode should not be an array, $config->get('printfriendly_display', array('full')) should instead, so the code inside that if will never run.
I created another patch. I hope this can be useful.

I am getting this same error on version 3.4. The patch will not apply to 3.4.
