When updating from an old dev release (commit a16b03c) to beta5, I get the following error:

This looks like one of those generic core errors that would be impossible for me to debug.
I can only wish you luck with your own debug process.

I solved the issue by skipping the basfield updates and running entity updates manually afterwards. The attached patch skips the update.

Let's see if anyone else faces this issue...
