This module should have a 2.x branch where it simply acts as UI for the published status field on taxonomy terms in 8.6.x and inform about that on the module page.

Perhaps this patch will help: #2899923: UI for publishing/unpublishing taxonomy terms
Also we should think about upgrade paths / deprecations.

Attached is a patch that will utilize the status of the taxonomy term entity that was introduced in 8.6.x core. This can be used as a starting point for the proposed 8.x-2.x branch. The patch does not provide any upgrade paths.

Thank you @pfrilling, that looks very good! I guess a 8.x-2.x branch could be created based on this. Afterwards we should also care for tests.
