Found that when used as a navigation menu, if the use clicks on a submenu of the lower top-level menus, then when the page refreshed, the wrong sub menu was opened.
This functionality requires jquery_cookie module: http://drupal.org/project/jquery_cookie

Thank you - this was the only thing that was missing for me.

EDIT

It appears you need to edit and re-save the mini panels after this update

Specifically:

Edit the mini panel
On the Layout Settings tab
Click on Edit style settings
Click on Save
Click on Save again
