It would be great to be able to select which encryption profile to use after installing the module (and before encrypting all email addresses).
By default it creates its own one (Dbee real_aes) and stores the key in DB. If I prefer to have a key as a file, I can change the Dbee real_aes profile to use that file, but all user email addresses will show encrypted and I will have to re-enter the original email addresses manually.

Hello,

Yes, The stable release will include this feature : all emails will be reincrypted on encryption profile or key changes. It is not available yet.
In the meantime : you can simply

  1. uninstall the dbee module,
  2. Edit the sites/default/settings.php file, declaring a private directory, for example :
    $settings['file_private_path'] = '/www/myprivatedirectory';
  3. Then install again the module : the key will be stored in a file.

Note : This is a dev version : always create a backup before doing this !
