Installation via composer is failing since libraries 8.* is not matching any package

Trying to install the module via composer:

composer require drupal/nearby_places_search:1.3

Fails:

- drupal/nearby_places_search 1.3.0 requires libraries 8.* -> no matching package found

I think this is because composer.json is requiring libraries:

"require": {
    "libraries": "8.*"
  }

but the proper name of the package should be drupal/libraries:

"require": {
    "drupal/libraries": "8.*"
  }
