pdftotext in non-root environment

I tried to install the helper applications and pdfttotext fails because of a missing library file, libpoppler.so.2

I contacted my isp and they told me they cannot support 3rd party software.

Is there a way to put this library somewhere so pdftotext will find it that can be done from a non-root environment?
