When a preview is generated, the little pencil icon appears that allows the user to edit... the preview! If the user decides to click on that icon, he gets an error because he is trying to edit a page that does not exist.

Also, the preview doesn't seem to actually appear for some reason. I tried it on a regular node and also on a poll.

pencil appears due to your theme and grou generated by live module. you will have to hit the Preview button for node preview.

You'll need to edit node.tpl.php (or other such) to exclude the pencil/edit link.
