Im using image gallery - i upgraded from 6x-1.7 and run the update script. When clicking on the image to enlarge using lightbox - the white border is missing on the right hadn side and border doesnt seem to be even around the image.

To fix the issue with the close button placement in Firefox, use the patch from comment #8 in #276891: "X" mark (close) is wrong formatted in Firefox 2.0.0.14.

The image positioning issue is caused by your theme's style.css file. If you remove the following lines from style.css, the image is positioned correctly.

img{
	padding: 10px 10px 10px 10px;
}

If you need that padding for other images in your site, then instead of removing those lines, try adding this to the bottom of the style.css file:

#lightboxImage {
  padding: 0px;
}
