There is a security release now available for Fieldable Panels Panes, to version 1.8. See https://www.drupal.org/node/2679589. This version either includes or implements differently the two patches added in the panopoly_core makefile.

Thanks so much, @cboyden! Especially for sharing the link to the tests. :-) The one failure looks like a false positive, I think this is ready to go. I've committed and will kick the release process into gear in a moment.
