It seems Link don't provide any formatters for Views despite they're defined in link_field_formatter_info().
In `views/link.views.inc` most of the functions are commented out with the comment:

@TODO: Is there some way to tell views I have formatters for it?

So it seems this functionality is missing for 7.x

Sorry, probably it works fine, as I was testing the wrong handler, because I've confused it with views_handler_field_node_link (default node link provided by Views it-self), but still comments says @TODO, so I'm not sure. If it's not implemented, please re-open.
