Per @dsnopek and this thread (https://www.drupal.org/node/1965864), I am opening this new issue, see below.
I am using CKeditor following the approach of #47 and #48 in thread above, and it has been working fine for over a year. But the latest Panoply updates Media to 2.0beta 1 which breaks CKeditor. I realize Panoply does not support CKeditor. Silly me for going off the reservation. But maybe you can help with this question?
If I could patch Media to the latest dev version (plus the Panoply patches to media), and then use the dev version of CKeditor and add a new module called MediaCKeditor, apparently all would work again. But this sounds like a risky plan as I don't want to have to keep patching future Panoply updates.
I might just rip CKeditor out and revert to TinyMCE but would prefer not to.
Any suggestions? Thank you very much for any tips.

electroponix commentedI just ripped out CK on mine.
Not happy about it, as I was moving everyone towards 8 with CK built in...

ergophobe commentedI needed to use a different version of media for a long time because I wanted to be able to apply this patch
#951004: Allow selecting of multiple media items for a multi value media field in the same dialog
I just leave Panopoly alone and put the version of media that I need in /sites/all/modules
Yes, that could lead to some serious problems, but it never did for me. I had at least a few dozen Selenium tests running on media-related items and would just make sure they ran when either Panopoly or Media updated.
