Can someone point me at documentation that describes how the Views Filter Operator and Values fields interact for CCK text fields?

I've been through the handbook and scoured the Views Issues and everywhere else I can think of and found nothing helpful. Google searches also come up devoid of helpful information.

On the interaction of "Operators" and "Values" the Views Filters Documentation at http://drupal.org/node/54457 says only: "Usually this appears as a human readable sentence, and by simply reading the fieldname, with the operator and the value, it is clear what the operator means."

...so perhaps the problem is that I'm subhuman, but it's not at all clear!

I have a CCK text field on which I want to filter. I want all the nodes where that filed is not blank.

If I select "Contains Any Word" as the Operator and leave the Value blank it returns ALL of the nodes.

If I select "Contains Any Word" as the Operator and put a single lower-case "e" into the Value field I get all the nodes with the letter "e" in them.

Because E is the most common letter in the English language that gets me close, ...but if the field contained "Call +1 415 555-1212 to confirm" that node would not be returned.

  • How do I filter for all non-empty instances of that field?
  • Are there wildcards documented somewhere?
  • Is there a way to see the SQL that VIEWS is generating so I can get there by analyzing what VIEWS produces?

The comments on the Views Filters Documentation at http://drupal.org/node/54457 lead me to believe that I'm not the only human having this problem. If someone can point me at some source material, I'll gladly write up what I learn and add it to the Views Filters Documentation.

I'd like to know how to get "as link" option with CCK fields.
Only "node: title" offers it at the moment.

Since I want a view to display all nodes created with CCK, I can add a filter on a CCK field (which I'm sure it must contains something) and say that that field MUST CONTAIN something.

I came across the same problem and I solved it by entering MORE than one letter in the filter. So now I have:

"Contains any word: a e i o u s w t r n" and you can even add numbers if you want.

All my nodes with filled fields are being returned and the ones with that field empty are not....so it's doing what it should.

I have a similar problem.

But i have to make sure NON of the fields are EMPTY.. and when I do a filter on multiple FIELDS,, they are all added to the qeury as AND.. filedvalue LIKE blah AND filedvalue2 like blah AND.. i need to have it so its OR instead of AND. because not all fields have a value,

I too am having trouble with the 'contains' operator. I have exposed a fullname field in a view's filters, using the 'contains' operator, but entering values always results in null results.

For example, I have a user with the name Trich It. Entering Trich It, Trich, Trich*, Trich%, etc doesn't give any results.

How is this supposed to be used?
