In my case I was testing and the field with the select2widget was empty causing this error:

Undefined index: select2widgetajax in select2widget_entity_process_callback() (line 127 of modules/all/select2widget/select2widget.entityreference.inc)

Let's just check if select2widgetajax is available before assigning
