Prerequisites:
- You are a group administrator

Steps to reproduce
- In the Team block, select the link '000 members'.
- You are now on: /group/node/[gid]/admin/people
- Click the edit link of a member
- (un)select one of the user roles
- Click Update membership
- Error message 'An illegal choice has been detected. Please contact the site administrator.' and 'State' selector is highlighted.

Hmm I cannot reproduce this, nor could opdavies. I tried with both user 1 and your user on dev. Are you still getting the error?

FYI I reproduced this earlier, but cannot reproduce it now on the staging site. @Sutharsan can you still reproduce?

I may be way off, but I think this may be a bug on OG, see #1635750: OG Context handler for ajax calls (system, file upload, autocomplete, etc) -
