I ran into this same issue but the patch above is probably not a great solution as you end up with undefined variables and errors.

Is it possible for you to describe to me how to recreate this bug? I can't seem to get there. I know it is not always going to be the exact count because this trim doesn't cut off words in the middle. So you probably get the exact number of characters or a few less...

I'm setting this issue to postponed untill I get more info on how to recreate.
