I rerolled the patch, it wasn't applying cleanly to the current -dev release. I also realized that in select_or_other_taxonomy_validate() the new version was using the wrong argument to taxonomy_term_load_multiple() - it was passing the $tag as the 'tid', whereas it should have been passing it as the 'name', because a few lines later it then saves the value as 'name'.

Please test this patch and see if it still works for you with i18n_taxonomy.

I believe this has been fixed in #2610910: Move taxonomy integration to it's own sub-module.
