Add the ability to query the database

Some hosts don't allow direct access to MySQL to be able to query the database. It would be good if a solution was provided where you could. This could get complicated for times when you need to do things like JOIN; so this functionality may be limited (i.e. only able to query one table). Example of a useful query: Getting the schema version for a particular module.
