I browsed to file location in my computer, selected it, but the upload field does not work, it is inactive.

You've said your version is 2.x-dev. This works fine for me uploading a custom logo on simplytest.me.

version is latest 7.2.2, no dev.
I can upload a custom logo too, by ftp the image and then setting the path.
What I am saying is that the Browse field does not work, you cannot upload via that one.

That sounds like a browser or OS issue. In the demo image above, I used the browse upload button for the custom logo. That was the case on my local and on simplytest.me.

Could be, I am testing on BOA, there is a Drupal group for that, it is very picky and monolithic, and that is not the only thing it disables, you cannot install modules via Drupal interface either, have to use SFTP, anyway not a big deal.

Oh yeah, there is absolutely nothing I can do to support that or fix that.
