liam morlandYou might need the jQuery Update module. Please try with the latest release versions (as opposed to the development versions). Please be clear about which browsers work and which don't; your list does not make that clear to me.
If you are using reCAPTCHA then you are not using image CAPTCHA.
I only maintain reCAPTCHA for Drupal 7. I have not run into this problem.

Watchkeeper commentedI'm having the same problem.
I have reCAPTCHA enabled for comments but the form does not display in Chrome 38.0.2125.122 m. It IS displayed in Opera 25.0.1614.68, SeaMonkey 2.30, Firefox 33.1.1 and IE 11.0.9600.
The relevant modules installed are:
recaptcha-6.x-1.7
captcha-6.x-2.6
jquery_update-6.x-2.0-alpha1
All applications are running on a HP Compaq CQ56 notebook running Windows 7. If you want to check the site itself it's at http://bcconline.org.uk.

hass commented@Watchkeeper: Have you identified the root cause? Otherwise we need to close the case for inactivity reasons as cannot repro.
