I was wondering if there is a drupal official blog site much like wordpress has their blog site. Or is drupal most of a content management program for web hosting?

I think they're asking if there's a drupal.com where you can sign up for an account and build a free blog that comes pre-hosted, with a limited selection of modules and themes. (Similar to Wordpress.com).

I may be wrong - but it's a query we get here from time to time.

If that's what you're asking: The answer is no. To run Drupal, you need a web hosting account. However there are third party providers that run Drupal as a service, some of whom make that available for free in certain circumstances.

Hosting doesn't need to cost more, monthly, than a cup of coffee or two in a coffee shop. Many hosts come with automated installers that will install Drupal very easily so you can get straight to exploring it and using it. It's not free, but it's easy (to get started) and inexpensive, and at the end of the day you then have a site that is fully customisable as you need it to be, and that is fully portable if ever your needs change.

not really true. To take drupal for a test drive there's simplytest.me and getpantheon.com and for a wordpress.com type clone there's drupalgardens.com.

Thanks for that list. I knew of some of those, but not all. And I'd quite forgotten that any of them have a free tier. Some time, I'll try them all out - just to learn how they work, what they can do, and where the limitations are.

The closest equivalent to hosted Wordpress is probably Drupal Gardens - http://www.drupalgardens.com
