so I downloaded and installed the module from drupal, and when I enabled it there was some error message saying it wasn't working and I should get the latest version direct from the creators (from CKeditor.com?)
Download, extract, and ftp it to my host, to location sites/all/modules/CKeditor/CKeditor
This fixed the problem for me.
Oh yeah, windows machines don't like nested folders with the same name - its bad practise on any platform! I suggest not doing that again.

apadernoVersion 7.x-1.13 required to download CkEditor from their site. It's version 7.x-1.14 that doesn't need that step.
