so I downloaded and installed the module from drupal, and when I enabled it there was some error message saying it wasn't working and I should get the latest version direct from the creators (from CKeditor.com?)
Download, extract, and ftp it to my host, to location sites/all/modules/CKeditor/CKeditor

This fixed the problem for me.

Oh yeah, windows machines don't like nested folders with the same name - its bad practise on any platform! I suggest not doing that again.

Version 7.x-1.13 required to download CkEditor from their site. It's version 7.x-1.14 that doesn't need that step.

To use CKEditor in Drupal, you may need to download CKEditor (the library which this module relies on). This would not be necessary starting from version 7.x-1.14 (not released yet - 24 April, 2014), where the installation has been simplified and CKEditor from official CDN is available by default.
