Yo-yo effect when trying to expand menu tree. [#2208577]

Can someone help me debug this? I've attached a video of the behavior I get.

When I first load a page it seems fine. When I click a colorbox node link over the product then close the box I'll get this yo-yo effect.

I have also seen this on multiple sites I have worked with. In both D6 and D7 version.
Any solution to this?

I have the exact same issue with colorbox node enabled. I also tried the dev version 7.x-3.x-dev of this module, but it made no difference.

Seems this is a duplicate of https://www.drupal.org/node/1495496 - a patch to dhtml_menu.js on that page has been issued which solved my problem.
