I'm curious if this module is compatible with custom results formats generated using apachesolr_views.

I don't believe it is. I'm working on this myself - for instance we use a Catalog generated by Apachesolr Views, and having a functional sort block is key. Hopefully someone will beat me to it but I am currently working on a solution.
