He indicated to me in IRC that he was willing to be listed in MAINTAINERS.txt as the maintainer. Unfortunately he also tried to draft me as co-maintainer, and I'm still thinking about it.
Meanwhile, Doug Green (currently listed maintainer for 7 and 8) has as far as I know done nothing on search.module in 7 or 8.
