I would like to use Admin menu module instead of Toolbar, but I would have to disable Cartaro demo. Is that dependence really needed?

It's probably not really needed, but I have to take a closer look.

In the meantime you can remove line 23 from [cartaro]/profiles/cartaro/modules/features/cartaro_demo/cartaro_demo.info
